WHY IS THE WORLD IN SUCH CRISIS

Why is the World in such Crisis?

One common notion expressed by most people is, “If God was really powerful and good, He would not allow so much evil and suffering to go on.” On the other hand, there are those who believe that, the victims of calamities are worse sinners than others hence the reason why they suffered. But according the words of Jesus Christ, “I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

Regardless of what people may want to attribute to the world’s increasing state of disaster, woes, and calamities, the word of God reveals that there are three fundamental reasons for all these troubles, and they are correlated to each other.

The word of God says; “The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away; the heavens languish together with the earth. The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants” (Isa.24:4-5)

No one is immune from those events that will permeate the whole earth. The prophet Isaiah wrote; “Behold, the Lord is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; He will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants. It will be the same for priest as for people, for masters as for servants, for mistress as for maid, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor. The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The Lord has spoken this word” (Isa.24:1-3).

What is happening is as a result of three basic, fundamental reasons which are:-

1a. Transgressing the laws of God.

The laws of God were designed and given for man’s good. It is God’s way of life to man. The Lord said to the prophet Ezekiel, “I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, by whose observance man shall live. Moreover I gave them My Sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I the Lord sanctify them. But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not walk in my statutes but rejected my ordinances, by whose observance man shall live; and My Sabbaths they greatly profaned” (Ezek.20:11-13).

As long as man continue to violate the way of life God has established for man to live by, the earth will continue to be under a curse.

Some distracters will say, the law is not for gentiles, they are only for the children of Israel. What we all need to establish firmly in our minds is this; from the moment Adam and Eve partook of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, man became separated from God. God dealt personally with only few individuals like the patriarchs and prophets. Mankind on the whole had no relationship with God. Therefore, “In past generations, He allowed all the nations to walk in their own

ways” (Acts 14:16). Hence the reason why, during the time of Noah, Abraham, Job etc. there were no instituted laws, no Sabbath keeping etc.

God’s relationship with man after the fall of Adam and Eve began again, when he chose the children of Israel as His own special people. To them and only to them he gave instructions on how to live, and entered into an everlasting covenant with them.

Moses said to the children of Israel, “For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether such a great thing as this has ever happened or was ever heard of. Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live? Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? To you it is shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him.” (Deut.4:32-35).

Jesus Christ came into the world and said, “Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them” (Matt.5:17)

Jews and gentiles are admonished to, “Welcome or accept one another, as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews of behalf of God’s truth to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs so that the Gentiles may glorify god for his mercy, as it is written: “Therefore I will praise you among the gentiles; I will sing hymn to your name.” Again he says, “Rejoice, O Gentile, with his people” [not in isolation] (Rom. 15:7-11).

One of the broken laws which truly affects the earth and its inhabitants is  quoted as follows:- “You shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it” (Num.35:33).

The murderous death of a human being defiles the land, and only the blood of the murderer can atone for that defilement.

The only way the blood of Jesus Christ will atone for the murder of a human being is when it can truly be said, “Our hands have not shed this blood, nor have our eyes seen it” then we can pray to God and say, “Provide atonement, O Lord, for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and do not lay innocent blood to the charge of your people Israel.” And atonement shall be provided on their behalf for the blood. So you shall put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord” (Deut. 21:7-9).

We are warned therefore, “Do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell: for I the lord dwell among the children of Israel” (Num. 35:229-34).

1b. Because of Injustice

The prophet Isaiah wrote: “The way of peace they know not, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked, no one who goes in them knows peace. Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we look for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom. We grope for the wall like the blind, we grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at noon as in the twilight, among those in full vigor we are like dead men. We all growl like bears, we moan and moan like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us. For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: transgressing, and denying the lord, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words. Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter. Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey” (Isa.59:8-15).

2. Changed the ordinance or violated the statutes.

An ordinance is an established religious ceremony, which is ordained or decreed by God.

The ordinances which have been changed are those ordained by God Himself stating, “The appointed feasts of the lord which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, my appointed feasts, are these. Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work: it is a Sabbath to the lord in all your dwellings” (Lev. 23:2-3)

This ordinance has now been changed to Sunday. Find out by whose authority.

The lord again said; “These are the appointed feasts of the lord, the holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at the time appointed for them.” These festivals are all listed in the 23rd chapter of Leviticus. How many church goers and festival keepers know about these festivals and their significance in relevance to Jesus Christ?

For example:

(a)    Passover and the days of Un-leavened Bread, has been changed to Good Friday.

(b)    Feast of Tabernacles has been changed to Christmas day.

(c)    The Eighth day of the feast of Tabernacles has been changed to first day of the New Year.

There is also the ordinance regarding unlawful sexual relations which reads; “You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You shall do my

Ordinances and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the lord your God. You shall therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances, by doing which a man shall live: I am the Lord” (Lev.18:3-5).

The ordinance states that, “No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the lord. Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother4. She is your mother; do not have relations with her. Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father. Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.(etc). (Lev. 18:6-23).

The warning is, “Do not defile yourselves by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am casting out before you defiled themselves; and the lane became defile, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. But you shall keep my statutes and my ordinances and do none of these abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you (for all of these abominations the men of the land did, who were before you, so that the land became defiled); lest the land vomit you out, when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you” (Lev. 18:24-28).

3. By breaking the Everlasting Covenant.

The everlasting covenant is the covenant which God made with the children of Israel when they stood before God in Horeb as stated in the book of Deuteronomy 4:13-14 saying, “And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, that is the ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone. And the lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances that you might do them in the land which you are going over to possess.”

With regards to the everlasting covenant we are warned saying, “take heed lest we forget the covenant of the lord our God which he made with us, and make for ourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the lord our God has forbidden us. For the lord our god is a consuming fire, a jealous God” (Deut.4:23-24).

It is this same everlasting covenant that has now been placed in our hearts, and written on our minds so that we can love it and not forget it. (Heb.10:16). The part of the everlasting covenant which is flagrantly broken with impunity is the seventh day Sabbath. When it is clearly stated, “The children of Israel [with whom gentiles are to glorify God together} shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath through out their generation as a perpetual [everlasting] covenant” (Exo.31:16).

The crux of the matter therefore is not, “If God was really powerful and good he would not allow so much evil and suffering to go on”. The truth is, “Our Lord God is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness”(PS. 86:15).

The things which are happening are all the consequences of man’s violation of God’s three fundamental principles. Because of transgressing the laws of God, changing his ordinance, and breaking his everlasting covenant all nations will say, “Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heart of this great anger mean? Then men would say; because they have forsaken the covenant of the lord God of their fathers, which He made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt; for they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that he had not given them “ Deut. 29:24-26).

Because of these three fundamental reasons we are admonished saying, “The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the exalted of the earth languish. The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few people are left. The new wine dries up and the vine withers; all the merrymakers groan. The gaiety of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped; the joyful harp is silent. No longer do they drink wine with a song; the beer is bitter to its drinkers. The ruined city lies desolate; the entrance to every house is barred. In the street they cry out for wine; all joy turns to gloom, all gaiety is banished from the earth. The city is left to ruins, its gates is battered to pieces. So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, or as when gleaming are left after the grape harvest” (Isa.24:4-13).

Unless we return to the laws of God, observe His ordinances, and keep His everlasting Covenant, conditions in this world will not improve. The prophet Isaiah and the prophet Ezekiel both agree that these three fundamental principles are the principles God established by which man should live (Isa.24: 5; Ezek. 20:11-12).

Even though the world which is under the sway of the devil will not take heed, we can individually take heed, and seek God’s divine protection.

Will you take heed?
